Programs / Activities

Choosing a program or activity doesn't have to be difficult.  In fact, we have taken a lot of work out of what you will do.  All that you and your group must do is choose from the program options available and we take care of the rest. Each program has been designed to provide maximum interest and excitement for youth and adults.  All progams are available throughout the year with the exception of whitewater rafting which runs April through October. Choose Your Challenge!  Do you desire a rush of excitement from rappelling down an 85 foot bluff or whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River, or do you prefer a relaxing stroll through the great outdoors by foot or bike? Then we have something to offer you. Contact our director at for rates on activities.

Climbing / Rappelling

Whether you are a novice or consider yourself an expert, you will enjoy ascending and descending the many cliffs around Latimer.  Our certified team of instructors will teach you how to safely enjoy this program.  You will receive instruction on how to properly prepare for the experience and then get to test your knowledge under their watchful eyes as you climb and rappel from heights of 50 to 90 feet.  Age Restriction - must be at least 13 years old.

Mountain Biking

You will experience all of the beauty of Latimer Reservation on the 10 mile mountain bike trail using a Trek 4500 bike.  Your ride will take you to all of the naturally beautiful areas of the Reservation.  You will see rock formations, an old coal mine which closed in the 1940's, Scott Pinnacle, Caney Fork River Gorge, waterfall and the overlook.  Keep in mind that the terrian around Latimer Reservation goes from very easy to very challenging.  This is no ride in the park!

You will find several trails throughout Latimer which your group may choose to backpack.  The staff will provide you with maps and water service while you are on the trail.  If the trails at Latimer are not enough for you, then we will be delighted to provide you service to numerous trails within the area of the plateau.  You don't want to miss the beauty in the spring and fall.

Shooting Sports

The goal of our Shooting Sports program is to teach basic knowledge, skills and attitudes for the safe and proper use of a pistol, rifle or shotgun.  Our program is conducted by certified NRA Instructors.  We provide 22 caliber and 9mm pistols, 22 caliber and 308 caliber rifles, along with 12 and 20 gauge shotguns.  We also offer participants the opportunity to earn a NRA Certification in Basic Pistol, Rifle and / Shotgun. Whitewater Rafting

Our whitewater rafting program consists of a trip to the Ocoee River where you will be under the direct supervision of the experienced staff of Outland Expeditions.  This program exposes you to the breathtaking scenery of the Cherokee National Forest, as well as the foaming waters of Class III and IV rapids.  Not only is this program for the beginning paddler, it will also provide a challenge for the advanced paddler. The Ocoee River hosted the whitewater events of the 1996 Olympics. Oh yes you will get wet, but it will be worth it all. Available from April 1 through October 31.  Age Restriction - must be 12 years old.

We offer volleyball, basketball, horseshoes and human foosball as group activities.  Participants may choose to kayak or sail on Lake Joe Long as well. Fishing is excellent at Latimer Reservation.  One of the special activities that groups may schedule while at Latimer is viewing the night sky through the observatory, weather permitting.  Our observatory is a state of the art backyard observatory with a 14 inch telescope. Smaller telescopes are available for individual use on the patio.
